Welcome To Y-MAP!

YOUNG MALE ACHEIVEMENT PROGRAM

Young Male and Female Achievement Program (Y-MAP) has been serving thousands of young men and women since 1999, originating in the Oxon Hill, Maryland area. Y-MAP has focused on helping young people become productive adults in todays society. Through community programs and parent assistance, Y-MAP has established successful tools to enrich these young adults for a lifetime of achievement. Our major emphasis is to place youth in a positive situation with the proper resources and support upon completion of the program.

Y-MAP has recently expanded its program to include young females. After serving young males for more than five years, we realized that young females were facing some of the same challenges as our young males…violence, family issues, peer pressure, sexual messages and drugs. Because of our vast network and available resources, we were able to locate and offer dedicated, professional, concerned, and committed females to provide support and lessons learned to young females throughout the DC Metropolitan Area.

The Y-MAP is designed to assist young people who are at risk academically and socially, as well as those who are in need of self-awareness and self-esteem building. There are many that need help with positively expressing and asserting themselves in their daily lives.

MENTORING PROGRAM

Mentoring programs are one of the best means of bringing a person who can represent the concern and support of the larger community into the lives of young people. In many ways, mentoring represents a return to tradition, calling upon the community to provide our youth with care and guidance, and to nurture and challenge them. Research shows that providing young people with consistent adult support through a well-supervised, frequently occurring, long-term mentoring relationship improves grades and family relationships, and helps prevent initiation of drug and alcohol use.
